FAQ

COUNTERTOP PROTECTION FILM

CAN THE COATING BE REMOVED? HOW?
We use deactivating liquid that makes removal simple and easy. Removal takes about half the time of the original install and can be completed by our Service Department. Some restoration to existing surface may be necessary post film removal, depending on the stone.

IS THIS COATING PRODUCT ONLY FOR NEW COUNTER INSTALLATIONS ?
It can be applied on new and used countertops. If the surface is heavily stained or has other damage, we suggest polishing the stone prior to applying the Countertop Protection Film. The benefit to adding the coating on a new installation is that it preserves the brand-new look of the top. The benefit to adding the coating on previously exiting material is that it preserves the surface and slows down further degradation.
DO I HAVE TO REMOVE MY KITCHEN AND BATHROOM TAPS ?
We can custom-cut around these items for customers who choose not to remove but removal is strongly recommended to achieve best results and prevent any dirt collections or water penetrations around the edges.

Removal and installation are suggested to be completed by the client’s service provider.

HOW DO I MAINTAIN MY PROTECTED SURFACE ?
A simple mixture of water and dishwashing liquid is sufficient for cleaning. Any non-ammonia glass cleaner is very effective as well. Because the film is less porous than the stone, it makes maintenance much easier and safer for the family and kids.

CAN I PUT HOT OBJECTS ON MY PROTECTED SURFACE ?
We always recommend using a foam heat pad, similar to a drying pad. This will dissipate the heat and weight on your protected surface. Given the thickness of the coating, a heavy pot of boiling water would leave a ghosting effect on the counter, not because of the heat but because of the weight. Using a pad will dissipate this weight over a larger surface and not cause any marks.
DOES THE PRODUCT PREVENT THE EDGES OF MY COUNTER TOP FROM CHIPPING?
No. If the countertop is forcefully hit, it will damage the film the same way it would damage the countertop beneath.
WHAT ARE YOUR FINISHING OPTIONS ?
Our finishing options include a gloss and a matte finish honed.
CAN YOU MAKE A VERY SHINY COUNTER LOOK HONED AND VICE VERSA ?
Yes, depending on the finish of the edge. If a honed surface has been improperly polished, we can also return it to a completely honed finish. This process is more involved and is considered stone restoration which will result in additional fees.
DOES THE FILM DISCOLOUR OVER TIME ?
Wear and tear is normal, like any other surface. But the film we use slows down the aging process of your surface and allows for worry-free daily enjoyment. It will not yellow or discolor.
CAN I NOTICE THE FILM ON THE COUNTER TOP WHILE IT’S BEING INSTALLED ?
Most clients have a hard time identifying the film once it is installed.
